In this article we will explain how to configure the ANPR Lumo to only accept license plates that drive in a certain direction.
This could be useful when an ANPR Lumo is used at a gate that is used in 2 directions, but you only want to capture and perform actions when the vehicle is driving towards the gate, and not leaving.
Step 1:
Open the menu Configuration -> ANPR
Below the live video, you can configure the motion detection settings.
Step 2:
To configure the Region of interest to only accept plate that Approch the camera, the following settings should be made:
Motion matching: DISTANCE CHANGE
Accept static: unchecked
Distance change: APPROACHING
Optionally you can also name the ROI, see the example below
note: "Accept static" are plates were the camera cannot determine the driving direction, most likely these are plates that are either parked or just moving slowly because they are standing in line/queue.
Step 3:
When only one Region of Interest (ROI) is configured, no special settings are required. Just make sure that you have configured a Read action only. When multiple ROIs are configured, ensure that the Action is defined only for the correct ROI name.
here the naming of the ROI in step 2 helps, see the example below for a Serial message that is only working on the ROI called "Entry"
Step 4:
To see if motion matching works correctly, the following items could be checked.
Open the menu TEXT RESULTS
Make sure the camera is configured to keep historical data, in the example below max 10000 plates are stored for max 24 hours.
Plates that are captured moving towards to camera (e.g. Approaching) should now be visible on the "ACCEPTED RESULTS" page. Details can be found when selecting a record from the list.
In the example below, the plate is detected approaching the camera, and a action is performed.
Vehicles driving in the wrong direction or too slow, are stored in the "WRONG DIRECTION RESULTS" page. Below an example of a plate that was "static" in the ROI.
Advanced motion matching
When you are experiencing that plates should be accepted but are identified as wrong direction, then most likely these vehicles are driver (too) slow, and the software cannot determine the driving direction.
You could then try using the option Motion Matching "Directional Angle"
When checking the individual results, a direction arrow is highlighted, see the example below, that specific plate was slightly moving down in the ROI.
To configure the ROI to only accept plates moving down through the ROI, the settings below can be used. The green part is basically the accepted direction.
