What reduces the read range of the uPASS reader?

The following items reduces the read range:

  • The RSSI threshold setting in the UHFTool. When reading a UHF tag the tool shows the RSSI (received signal strength indicator) value. Holding the tag further away gives a low value, closer to the reader gives a higher value. By setting the threshold to a value, RSSI detections with a lower value are not read.
  • The Antenna output power setting in the UHFTool. The lower the power the lower the read range will be. Lowering the power has also a positive effect on reflections.
  • For the uPASS Reach and Target counts that the reader mounting angle has an effect on the read range. The higher the angle the lower the read range (see picture below for the Target).mceclip0.png
