Wiegand hardware test on the uPASS Go

Introduction

The uPASS Go is equipped with various interfaces for integration with third-party platforms. One of these is the Wiegand/magstripe interface.

To test whether this interface is functioning correctly, you can connect it to a third-party access control system and present a tag. This should generate Wiegand or magstripe data. However, the results may vary depending on the configuration, the type of tag used, or potential issues such as a faulty Wiegand interface.

This article describes a feature that allows you to test the interface without the need to connect a third-party controller.

Hardware preparation

First, you’ll need to prepare the uPASS Go reader. This requires three wires.

Connect OUT1 to IN1

Connect OUT2 to IN2

Connect OUT3 to IN3

Software preparation

After preparing the hardware, you need to configure the reader so that it responds to input changes. Start the UHF TOOL and establish a connection with the uPASS Go reader.

Next, open the "LED Control" menu and adjust the settings as shown in the example below:

Performing the test

To start the test, you’ll need to send a command to the reader. First, press the F9 key to enable the expert feature of the UHF Tool.

Next, open the Console tab and enter the following command at the bottom of the screen: 019905, then press Enter.

Now, observe the front LED of the uPASS Go and listen for the beeper. You should see and hear the following pattern:

1x Yellow blinking

2x Blue blinking

3x Beeper sound

If you see all the LED colors and hear the beeper (the exact pattern is not critical), then you can be confident that the hardware of the uPASS Go is functioning as expected.

Below is a screenshot showing all the relevant settings and commands:
